Realising Form, a dialogue between six makers, Make Hauser & Wirth, Somerset 2020
The works for Realising Form have deep significance for me. They mark the culmination of twenty five years as a porcelain artist, coming to fruition for this show. Working towards the exhibition has given my practice greater clarity and the focus on the ceremonial vessel felt appropriate. The alteration of the vessel has long been part of my experimental approach. For these works the split is pure joy for me, a gesture and expression very much part of the process. Inspiration is also taken from the Neolithic jade bi-discs, originating from China and on display at the British Museum. Captivated by their strong classical form | recreated ceremonial hand-thrown discs and vessels in porcelain and stoneware as a result of thirteen-hour wood kiln firings.
